Will there be a day when Mr. Perry is taking us on another tour of the Tyler Perry Studios, and pointing at a door that reads "Writer Room" or the Director chair labeled "Co-Director To Tyler Perry?” According to Mr. Perry, there may be a time when this will happen. In the Tyler Perry Is Ready to Cede (Some) Controlarticle, when asked how Mr. Perry will give cede control, his response is one sentence: "It's going to be more of me overseeing, rather than doing the hands-on work." The following sentence is him reminding The Culture of all that he does. As I read this article, I thought about the requirements for working for Mr. Perry.
Mr. Perry mentions that while he was in the mountains for six weeks and being greeted by a family of moose, he was writing a 72 episode television series. To do this, Mr. Perry created his own schedule working from 7 a.m to 7 p.m, looking at a moose. Would a writer have to be that focused? Imagine writing a scene for Sisters or Bruh, and a family of moose come to your window. Would you not take an hour or more out of your day to view them?
Throughout the article, Mr. Perry reminds us of his work ethic and how he is never without a moment of creativity. Which is the reason why The Culture respects Mr. Perry. But that also brings the question of who would be qualified to work for Mr. Perry?
Will Mr. Perry have to put in the job qualification that you must not be distracted by nature, you must be able to direct 12-15 hours a day, and you must be able to release 3-6 films a year? Will the hiring process be cut and dry? I am sure the writer or the co-director that will be hired will explain to us the process because they will be standing next to big shoes. Also, if The Culture does not like the writer or director, they will definitely make sure their opinions are heard. (Remember the wig issue). Good luck to the candidates out there, whoever they are.
